Permanent Residency
Although some PR cards are only good for a year, the majority of them are up to 5 years. The card has a printed expiration date. You cannot use your PR card as a valid passport once it expires. In the event that your PR card expires in the next six months, you must seek to renew it.
A permanent resident card application requires that you:
- already be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- be present in Canada physically.
- not be a Canadian citizen and not have been requested by the Canadian government to leave the country.
